Editorial Policy

The Red Wing’s Nest accepts submissions in visual and literary arts from young artists and writers pre-school through 8th grade.

The submissions are reviewed  and selected by an editorial panel of Middle School students from Sabot at Stony Point under the guidance of a managerial editor.

Submissions are reviewed and selected based on the connection to the issue’s theme, over-all artistic/literary inspiration, craft, originality and artistic vision. These factors are reviewed considering the artist’s or writer’s age.

After careful consideration of the work, artists and writers are notified prior to publication of  acceptance to the journal by e-mail.  We regret that not all works will be accepted, but the editorial panel is committed to giving each work careful and fair consideration.  In some cases, a work may be suited to a future issue and in that case, notification will be made.

If your work is published in The Redwing’s Nest, the journal has the publishing rights for 4 months until the next issue is published.   The Redwing’s Nest does not accept work that has been previously published in a major publication. We do, however, accept work that has been published in a school newspaper or journal.

The Redwing’s Nest is committed to fostering the talent of young artists and writers, but regret that the editorial panel is unable to provide personal feedback on your work, if it is not accepted.

The editorial panel of Middle School students at Sabot at Stony Point looks forward to reviewing your work!
