Tying my shoes

I stop.

Simply,

To tie my shoes

And I notice

For the first time

The world

Around me.

A monochromatic ocean,

Red

Waves

Of gently blowing leaves.

Leaves,

Swirling.  Dipping.  Diving.

Skimmng, like gulls.

But reddest of all,

The cardinal.

He stands

King-like.

Atop the tallest tree

Watching

Over all.

And then,

A new wave,

Of people.

Talking, laughing.

They surge past me.

And I, still sitting

Am engulfed.

But I don’t see them

I see the blue, blue sky,

And the Cardinal silhouetted

Against it.

They don’t.
